About us PDF Print E-mail
My name is Paul Lock and I am the proprietor and inspiration behind NAR Products. I am 5ft 5”and 35 years old (in 2008).

I started “proper” training back in 1991 when I was 17. Prior to that I was an avid Martial Arts fan, practicing Wado Ryu karate from the age of 14 and obtaining my purple belt (3 from black belt). I also took up Jiu Jitsu which was a totally different ball game. JJ was much harder but I liked that as I found it more of a challenge. Although Wado Ryu is very effective it was very basic in comparison.

As a young teenager I idolised Bruce Lee and wanted the same physique as him, so I joined a gym when I was 15. I combined weights with mixed martial arts and it worked to my advantage. It didn’t take me long to realise that weight training was my REAL passion. I was, and am to this day, self taught in weight training and more importantly, nutrition!

I worked as a part time slaughter man from the age of 16 earning a whopping £10 per week (wow), whilst still at school. I used to save 2 week’s worth of part time wages to buy a budget protein powder and my diet was clean and well thought out considering I was still at school. Within 3 months I went from 9 stone (126 lbs) to 10 stone (140 lbs). I managed to add another 14 lbs that year, so in total I had a net gain of 2 stone (28 lbs). This took my weight to 11 stone (154 lbs). I gained another 14 lbs the following year through hard training and a solid diet.

I decided to enter my first bodybuilding contest at the age of 19. I was far too eager to compete and gave myself just 3 weeks to prepare. It was a local show and I placed fourth out of six! I did it for the experience rather than the win, but with 3 weeks what can you expect!

The following year my weight increased to 13.7 stone (189 lbs) and I gave myself 3 months to prepare. I was a shapely, defined 12 stone (168 lbs) and I competed in the under 75kg class and won, qualifying me for the EFBB British Championships. A week later I competed in a local open show and won that as well. The judges were so impressed they gave me the overall Mr trophy instead of the junior winners’ trophy. I didn’t think I was that good, but the judges thought so and the feeling was fantastic for a young lad trying to do something with his life. One month later I placed second at the British Finals in 1993. I got beat fair and square but I was still very pleased. That was to be my final junior show as I was turning 21.

Competing at a young age taught me a lot about myself and how my body responds to certain foods, training, cardio etc. It certainly made me mature quickly compared to other teenagers who were out drinking and up to no good. Compared to them I seemed very boring because all I was interested in was physical performance.

The next time for me to hit the stage was when I was 25, nearly four years later. I weighed in at 12 stone 4 lbs and was in great condition. I was up a against a guy called Brian Yansan, a world class light weight competitor seven years older than me. Because of his age his muscle maturity shone through. I don’t mind admitting that he was pure class. I placed second, but at least it qualified me for the British Championships at the Wembley Conference Centre. I was as nervous as hell and didn’t make the top six. I was suffering from VERY severe cramps because of dehydration and I could hardly hit a pose. However I did make some good comparisons against a fellow named Mike Sheridan who placed third. This guy is now a professional so that makes me feel a little better.

My next contest prep a year or two later got off to a poor start; I had a bout of food poisoning a few weeks out that literally ruined everything for me. I abandoned my planned show and took part in a local competition instead. I placed first against a guy who had previously competed in the British finals. I took the class and the overall trophy.

A few years later I competed again. I was roughly the same weight but much tighter. I thought I had it in the bag but placed second, to most people’s disbelief. Next came the UKBFF British Finals. I placed seventh out of a very tough class of eighteen. I was very pleased. After 90 min’s of pre-judging I was wiped out and I learnt a great deal from this show.

Next up for me was to move up a weight class to the light heavyweight division. I weighed in at 13 stone 6 lbs (188 lbs). I was much bigger but hadn’t nailed my condition 100 per cent as I was going through a lot of personal problems. The standard was excellent - I always tend to aim for top qualifiers than I can see how far I am against the top guys. I placed a respectable fourth out of a class of twelve. The guy who won actually won the British Finals, proving I was up against the very best!

Exhausted, I decided to have an extended break and took 6 months off training. Once rested I competed again, weighing 12 stone 8lbs at around 5 per cent body fat. It killed me to get down to this weight and I lost muscle for sure but I needed to do it to get back in the game. I placed third out of a ten man line up. To qualify for the Britain you have to be in the top two. Even if I had qualified I wouldn’t have competed due to a shoulder injury that left me needing keyhole surgery.

For this year (2008) I have decided to see how far I can push myself. I plan to be in a shredded condition at a weight of 13.7 to 14 stone, 15 - 20 lbs heavier than last year! I have never had so much belief in myself and this year I will see myself at my best ever in terms of size and condition. The difference is very evident indeed and you can check my progress by following my Blog.

I have been involved in Bodybuilding now for over fifteen years, owning and running my own sports supplement business for much of this time. Twelve months ago I decided to up my game and bring out my own range of Bodybuilding supplements. There are many reasons why I decided to do this, but the main reason was that I felt that too many modern supplement companies were substituting quality ingredients for sub-standard ones. I also felt that too many companies weren’t quick enough to respond to breakthroughs in nutritional research. I spend most of my life reading about new ways to create the perfect body and wanted to put my knowledge into a range of products that I could call my own. I have formulated all of the products available through this website myself. This way I know exactly how the products are made and what goes into them.

NAR Products provides the very latest cutting edge nutritional supplements based on over fifteen years of knowledge gained through my involvement in the Bodybuilding industry. Be assured that no expense has been spared in the formulation of my products. I guarantee the finest hand-picked selection of Bodybuilding nutrients you will find ANYWHERE.
